Backpacking Checklist

Essential in planning your trip

A Backpacking Checklist will make sure that you have everything needed for the trail.  When you are on the trail would not be a good time to find out you left something behind, such as your sleeping bag or a first aid kit.  Therefore, even if you think you will remember, get out a piece of paper, and a pencil and start planning now.

Backpacking Checklist

Since you are Backpack camping your needs will be a little different from others.  The obvious is that you will need a tent or some type of shelter, but also you will need camping equipment, supplies, food, and clothing.  When making your checklist, start with the very basics and expand from there.

Think about the space you have and the weight you can carry.  This will not only help to  decide quickly what you really need, but also help you decide what you need to purchase.  The items you purchase will have to be more compact.  Pre-staging the items will help you in determining what to remove or add.

How to pack you Backpack

The Backpacking Checklist

Your Hiking/Backpacking checklist will consist of several pages, with sub categories.  This will be time consuming on your first trip, but eventually you will develop a one that you use for every trip.

Pages that maybe included are:

    Camping Equipment Checklist
    Camping Supply Checklist
    Camping Food List
    Camping Packing List

Below are two links that will give you an idea of some of the items on each of these checklists.

Camping Equipment Checklist - include items that you will use on each trip

Camping Supply Checklist - includes items that may need to be replenished before each trip

Camping Food List

Backpacking Food

This will be a list that you determine what is included.  There will be some basic items that you will take on every trip and other just for the trip you are about to take.  The Camp Cooking page goes into more detail when developing your Camping Food List, which includes Camping Menu and Camping Recipes.   Making your list will assure that you have all of the food with you and can be part of your packing list.

Other lists that may be useful are Clothing List, and Packing List.  These lists will be ever changing depending on where you are going, how long you will be gone, and what time of year.  To create these list easily, if you are computer suave is to create a spreadsheet for each of them and edit them when planning each trip.
